Ultimate BBQ Fundraiser a Success

On Saturday, September 7, the parish of St. Anthony of the Desert in Fall River hosted a BBQ fundraiser for the Maronite Servants in the Maronite Center.

With over 150 people in attendance from different Maronite and Roman Catholic parishes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the evening’s program was filled with gratitude for God’s blessings, a delicious BBQ buffet, and live entertainment.

We were blessed with the presence of both Maronite and Roman Catholic clergy, including the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation, who were a great means of support for the Maronite Servants in beginning this foundation.

We are most grateful to Msgr. James Root, Pastor of St. Anthony of the Desert, and his devoted parishioners for graciously hosting this event.  This BBQ fundraiser could not have taken place without the help of many donors and benefactors, too many to be named here, who have overwhelmed us with their generosity in giving of their time, talents and treasures. We are most grateful to all who supported us.

10 Year Anniversary Hafle Celebration

By Sr. Natalie Sayde Salameh, MSCL

On Saturday, October 13, the Maronite Servants commemorated their 10 Year Anniversary with a hafle celebration at Our Lady of the Cedar’s Hall in Jamaica Plain. The Hall was recently renovated earlier this year, and was a beautiful location for our celebration.

With 275 people in attendance from all seven Maronite parishes in Massachusetts, the evening’s program was filled with prayer and gratitude for God’s blessings, a delicious banquet buffet, and live entertainment.

We were blessed with the presence of both Maronite and Roman Catholic clergy, including the Daughters of St. Paul, who were a great means of support for Mother Marla Marie in beginning this foundation.

Chorbishop Joseph Kaddo gave the invocation. Msgr. James Root, Pastor of St. Anthony of the Desert, gave a short presentation on the early beginnings of the foundation and how he was a part of the clergy committee charged with overseeing the establishment of the Maronite Servants. Mother Marla Marie gave a heartfelt presentation on her experience as the foundress of the Maronite Servants, emphasizing God’s many blessings in the last 10 years. Msgr. Georges El-Khali, Pastor of Our Lady of the Cedars Church, finished the evening’s presentations by praising the work of the sisters, and how greatly the sisters are appreciated and needed in our Maronite eparchies.

The evening concluded with dancing and live entertainment by Mitchell Kaltsunas and his band giving us a nice rendition of Lebanese music. It was awesome to see so many people with a smile on their faces, many who had been there from the beginning supporting our foundation.

This hafle celebration could not have taken place without the help of many donors and benefactors, too many to be named here, who have overwhelmed us with their generosity in giving of their time, talents and treasures. We are most grateful to all who supported us.

Fundraising for the Maronite Servants - Aliquippa PA

By Therese Touma
The Maronite Servants drove from Boston to Aliquippa, PA (near Pittsburgh) to attend their 8th Annual Grand Hafle April 30th, at the Club at Shadow Lakes. We were warmly invited by Abouna Rodolph Wakim, Pastor of the Mission Church of the Maronite community there. Abouna Rodolph is also the pastor of the Maronite parish in Pittsburgh.
At the beginning of the Hafle, Mother Marla Marie was asked to address the audience and speak on the mission of Maronite Servants of Christ the Light. After Mother concluded her talk expressing gratitude to those in attendance, she was pleasantly surprised by Abouna Rodolph’s generous presentation of a $5000 gift. This donation was collected from a 50/50 fundraiser raffle organized by Mark and Suzanne Betters (members of the mission Church). They sold 100 tickets valued at a $100 each to the community of Aliquippa and in two weeks sold out. An awesome effort!
We are grateful and appreciate Mark and Sue’s dedication, warm hospitality and enthusiastic commitment to support our growing mission.
A big thank you to the Maronite Community of Aliquippa for your charity and goodness!
Be assured of our continual prayers.

Altanta Fundraiser

Many thanks to Abouna Dominque and the parishioners of St. Joseph's Maronite Church in Atlanta for hosting a fundraiser lunch on November 15 as a benefit to the Maronite Servants of Christ the Light.  Louis and Reem Ragy coordinated this event with the help of many, serving a catered Italian meal in the church hall after the 11:00am Liturgy.  Louis was able to present Sister Marla Marie with nearly $4,000 in donations from this event.  These funds, representing the generous charity of the people of St. Joseph's, will be used to support the operating expenses of the Monastery.
